The PGL Knowledge Connection: Building E-learning Communities

  • The Conecção do Saber (Knowledge Connection-Brazil) project was officially launched in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil on August 4th, 2004. The project, directed and presented by Dr. Leonardo Mendes (UNICAMP), digitally links several schools in the region. Conecção do Saber is the first primary and secondary digital education project to link so many schools in Brazil at once.
  • The PGL Knowledge Connection - Tampa. PGL is working with the University of Tampa, supported by the Verizon Corporation, to implement student-led web development projects in partner high schools in Tampa, Florida; Monterrey, Mexico, and Veckenstedt, Germany. In 2004, the students planned and developed web sites about their local cities and presented their work to one another using Internet-based videoconferencing. In 2005, an indigenous music project features K-12 schools in Tampa, Mexico, and Brazil.
  • E-learning Rural Communities. PGL and the Florida Learning Alliance (an organization to support technology infrastructure in rural schools) are meeting with K-12 school leaders to design international e-learning communities. Teachers and students in Latin America, Mexico and Florida will design ongoing "sister" school programs supported by Internet tools and technologies.
